Did you know that more than one-third of the global population experiences at least one skin condition? For some it may be acne, while others may struggle with eczema or psoriasis. Regardless of the specific diagnosis, these skin conditions come along with more than itchy or irritated skin. These skin disorders can also impact one’s quality of life.
The idea for SEEN came from Harvard-trained dermatologist Dr. Iris Rubin’s own struggle with acne—after she realized that haircare products were contributing to her breakouts. She set out to create a full line of non-comedogenic haircare that won’t clog pores by selecting good-for-the-skin ingredients while avoiding many common irritants, allergens, and pore-clogging ingredients. Thanks to her stringent formulation standards, SEEN is clinically proven to be non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores), non-irritating, and safe for sensitive skin as well.
Since fragrance can be an irritant or allergen for some, Dr. Rubin created fragrance-free versions of the full SEEN line. The National Eczema Association has recognized all fragrance-free SEEN products as safe for eczema-prone skin. In addition, after submitting our Fragrance Free Shampoo and Fragrance Free Conditioner for review, the National Psoriasis Foundation gave both the green light for psoriasis-prone skin.
What is psoriasis?
Psoriasis causes scaling and itching on the scalp and skin, but this immune-related skin condition is primarily characterized by raised, red patches of skin covered in silvery scales. Though most common on the scalp, elbows, and knees, psoriasis can cover larger areas of the body as well.
Psoriasis can be genetic, and triggers can include stress, skin injuries, infections, certain medications, and even weather conditions. It’s important to note that every time you shampoo and condition, a variety of potentially irritating ingredients can come in contact with active psoriasis (unless you use non-irritating haircare products like SEEN). Since there are several types of psoriasis with varying symptoms, it’s best to seek the help of a dermatologist who can help find the ideal treatment approach.
SEEN Fragrance Free Shampoo, Fragrance Free Conditioner, and the Fragrance Free Essential Bundle have been recognized by the National Psoriasis Foundation as safe for psoriasis-prone skin.
What is eczema?
There are several types of eczema, including atopic dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, and irritant dermatitis. Yet despite the type, eczema generally begins with itching and a red rash that eventually leaves the skin looking dry and scaly. The scalp can also develop itching and/or flaking from irritants and allergens in haircare products. Irritants and allergens in soap and detergents, extreme hot or cold, scratchy fabrics, and other triggers can cause eczema to flare up, and this skin condition has been linked to a weakened skin barrier as well. Harsh surfactant ingredients found in shampoos and soaps can strip the skin of the essential moisture the skin’s barrier needs to do its job, which is why gentle, non-irritating personal care products, including hair products, can help keep eczema-prone skin looking and feeling its best.
SEEN Fragrance Free Shampoo, Fragrance Free Conditioner, Fragrance Free Deeper Conditioner, Fragrance Free Leave-In Conditioner, Magic Serum, Restore Scalp Serum, Fragrance Free Blow-Out Creme, Fragrance Free Curly Creme, Fragrance Free Face Wash, Fragrance Free Body Wash, and Fragrance Free Baby 2-in-1 Shampoo & Body Wash have received the National Eczema Association’s Seal of Recognition™.
We’re proud to offer products that allow those with psoriasis- and eczema-prone skin to enjoy gorgeous hair without worry about exacerbating these skin conditions. All SEEN formulas undergo formal third-party testing to ensure they don’t clog pores or cause irritation, and are safe for sensitive skin.
Dr. Rubin believes that everyone deserves haircare that delivers salon-quality results while respecting the health of the skin. SEEN does both, even for those with common skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema!
